(rest of spec same as M90 above but no bluetooth or smart card reader)īetter with 386 kernel instead of generic Runs better than Vista or XP! Very, very fast.

Running Ubuntu 7.04 straight out of the box. O2 Micro smart card reader (doesn't work) Though I will agree with you that firefox is slower, I have gotten it to the point where its acceptable, but it is very sluggish for some reason on linux, I have no idea why it runs so slow. When I switched to Ubuntu I kept my system the same way, optimized, clean, and minimal, I can safely say that with the right tweaks (if you use google there are some neat little tricks you can find) Ubuntu runs at least as fast as XP, and in many cases even faster.

My definition of snappy is instantaneous, when I used XP I had an average of 20 processes on startup and only used about 140 MB of RAM, everything was instant, no lag, no waiting, no problems. I could never figure that one out maybe people have different definitions of "snappy?"

Some decent nVidia card, not at work now and I can't remember exactlyĪnd at work I'm always frustrated because of the UI sluggishness =[ I've been using windows and linux extensively, with a little OSX for good measure, for many years now and I always end up back with XP at home. No amount of "tweaking" made a difference and I spent quite a lot of time trying to get it running fast.ĭual Xeon 2.3ghz (I think, close to that) I've also used Ubuntu on this system and the interface is slower, apps like firefox are slower than in XP, etc. I really want to use Ubuntu for my home desktop but I can't bring myself to do it becuase XP is so much quicker.
